Zone Refining of Ultrahigh-Purity Sodium Iodide for Low-Background Detectors

چکیده
There has been a growing interest in ultra-high purity, low-background NaI(Tl) crystals for dark matter direct searches. Past research indicates that zone refining is an efficient and scalable way to purify NaI. In particular, K Rb -- two elements with radioisotopes can cause scintillation backgrounds be efficiently removed by refining. However, never demonstrated purity NaI which became commercially available recently. this article, we show many common metallic impurities via A numerical model predicting the final impurity distribution was developed used fit ICP-MS measurement data determine segregation coefficient initial concentration. Under scheme, estimated 0.57, indicating still effective removing from As tends move one end, concentrations too low measured directly unprocessed powder potentially detected end due enrichment. We also present analysis technique estimate of partial data, effectively enhances sensitivity spectrometer. Using technique, concentration $^{85}$Rb between 5 ppt 14 at 90% CL, least times lower than detection limit 7 current most stringent set DAMA collaboration counting radioactive $^{87}$Rb. These results imply key developing next-generation, NaI-based crystal scintillators detection.

Advantages of using thin sodium iodide detectors for thyroid monitoring of personnel working with 125I.
Measurements of neck count-rates for personnel who regularly iodinated proteins with 125I showed that, generally, count rates were higher after iodination than before. The major pathway for the intake of 125I during iodination was through skin that was exposed to the free-iodine atmosphere of the fume hood. Neck count-rates were measured in 34 other subjects who were working with 125I. The rate...

A recently developed preparative technique, pH-zone-refining countercurrent chromatography (CCC), separates organic acids and bases according to their pKa and hydrophobicity. The hydrodynamic mechanism of pH-zone-refining CCC is illustrated in two elution modes along with a simple mathematical analysis. Separations include acidic and basic derivatives of amino acids and peptides, hydroxyxanthen...

The detection of low energy neutrinos ( few tens of MeV) via coherent nuclear scattering remains a holy grail of sorts in neutrino physics. This uncontroversial mode of interaction is expected to profit from a sizeable increase in cross section proportional to neutron number squared in the target nucleus, an advantageous feature in view of the small probability of interaction via all other chan...

متن کاملQuantum key distribution over 120 km using ultrahigh purity single-photon source and superconducting single-photon detectors
Advances in single-photon sources (SPSs) and single-photon detectors (SPDs) promise unique applications in the field of quantum information technology. In this paper, we report long-distance quantum key distribution (QKD) by using state-of-the-art devices: a quantum-dot SPS (QD SPS) emitting a photon in the telecom band of 1.5 μm and a superconducting nanowire SPD (SNSPD). At the distance of 10...
